Welcome to the Discovery Learning Center

The Learning Center is a unique research center encompasing the Discovery, Learning, and Engagement missions of the University, as outlined in Purdue's Strategic Plan. Learning Center research projects will make use of cutting-edge and highly-sophisticated learning research laboratories to examine the processes by which people learn not only information, but also the problem solving and lifelong learning abilities that are crucial to the workforce of the future. Ranging from research on brain function to research in education practice, particularly in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (the STEM disciplines), discovery in the Learning Center will shed light on the physiologic, pedagogic sociologic, and environmental factors that impact learning in varied learning communities. The knowledge gained from this research will transform teaching and learning at all levels, from kindergarten through high school, to undergaduate and graduate study, and beyond. Application of discoveries made in the Center will facilitate development of a scientifically literate population and will help prepare students for the high tech jobs of the future.

Since its inception in March 2003, Discover Learning Center has focused on identifying, developing, and nurturing interdisciplinary teams and projects that integrate, synthesize, and promote discovery, learning, and engagement. Currently, the Learning Center has over 300 Affiliates representing twelve schools and 45 academic departments or units at Purdue; plus affiliates from other Universities, Business and Industry, Teachers, Professional Organizations, and other interested groups. We invite you to become an Affiliate of the Learning Center, by clicking on the "Becoming an Affiliate" link at the left.

Connection, collaboration, and completion are the hallmarks of the Discovery Learning Center. Learning Center staff work to bring people together, shaping practices that help, rather than hinder working across disciplines and across schools, and funneling the work into an actual grant application. To date, DLC has facilitated submission of 15 interdisciplinary proposals. DLC is interested in talking to you about your project ideas and needs!
